Life and Death is a piece inspired by the Mayan Culture, it is my own version of the symbolism around which the entire Mesoamerican Idiosyncrasy revolves.
In the cosmogonic vision of our pre-Hispanic cultures, Life and Death are part of a whole, there is not one without the other, it is a permanent circle like Yin and Yang.
In my design there are the two faces in a circle meaning a continuous cycle and is carved in Aqua Blue Jade representing Life, Water.
The design also shows the God Chaac and the Symbol of the Fifth Sun carved on the Aqua Blue Jade.
Emerald Green Jade represents the Hope to live a new life.
The 2 Sapphire Blue Jades are the eyes of the God Chaac and also represent the night or the brief darkness that one must go through to be born again!
Gold represents the Sun.
